It is estimated that 244 million people in India live below the poverty line. Without proper vocational training, women and girls often work as day laborers or resort begging in order to help meet the financial needs of their families. The Tabitha Tailoring school for women offers a six-month training course providing women with a skilled trade. After completing the course, the women are able to be self-supporting. Upon graduation, each tailoring student receives a sewing machine. As a result, the women have the means and training to start their own tailoring business.
